What if I need surgery?
If your treatment provider feels that surgical intervention is required, you will need to consult your GP who should then refer you to a consultant.
If possible, try to see a consultant who specialises in sports injuries, and ideally also specialising in the body part concerned. The consultant may order further diagnostic tests to confirm his or her diagnosis. Your options, and their likely outcomes, should then be discussed with you.
If your decision is to proceed with surgery, you will need to know details such as how long you are likely to be in hospital, the anticipated length of time before you can walk (if appropriate)/drive/return to work/run/return to sport.
